Since the turn of the last century, Designer’s Edge International has provided the hairstylist with quality cutlery that has not changed with the times, rather has caused the times to change.
Jan van Oene, a cutlery merchant in Amsterdam in the early 1900s, inspired his son, Harry, to go through his apprenticeship in Solingen, Germany where he worked for a number of years as a journeyman. In 1938 he opened his firm, but was forced to return to Amsterdam during the war years. After the war, Harry was one of the first to return to Solingen and re-opened his business with his son, G.P. For seventeen years they mastered their specialized skills and worked strictly on professional haircutting shears. Their expertise was recognized around the world by the abundance of contracts they received and the companies they served. In 1962, they were recruited to America by distributors in the beauty business. Sons Gerrit and Dirk mastered the trade and continued the provision of the highest quality implements and unsurpassed service. For generations, the van Oenes were devoted to hair stylists. Today, linked with some of the finest companies in the Orient, Designer’s Edge continues to provide the finest shears available under the direction of new Designer’s Edge owner, Harmon Greene. Since 2002, Harmon has overseen the transition of Kokoro blades from wax castings to forged blades, and has given the independent distributor new and useful promotional programs to help them place this fine product in the hands of the stylists
